About Us

For more than 30 years the veterinary practices of the Upper Connecticut River Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont have shared coverage for small animal emergency services. Over the years, a group of veterinarians began to develop a vision for a centrally located emergency and critical care clinic that could meet the needs of pet owners throughout the Upper Valley.

Founded in 2010, by a group of local veterinarians, the Valley Center for Animal Referral & Emergency Services (Valley CARES) is the realization of that vision. Staffed by specially trained emergency and critical care veterinarians, our facility is capable of providing a full range of advanced diagnostic services, intensive care, emergency surgeries, pain management, specialist referrals, and more.

While we have the resources of a fully equipped veterinary hospital, we are intended to be an extension of the medical services provided by your family's regular veterinarian. We are a bridge to provide emergency and critical care for your pet when your regular veterinarian is unavailable: afterhours, weekends, and holidays. Once your pet has been treated and stabilized, we will refer you to your veterinarian for follow up and sustained care of your pet.

Our goal is to ensure that the pets of the Upper Valley have access to excellent care even when their regular veterinarian is not available. We not only excel in the care we provide, but in communicating with you and your veterinarian to ensure continuity of care. Aiding this collaborative communication is the fact that all of our medical records are computerized and are able to be easily shared with your veterinarian as well as with any specialist necessary.

While we hope that you and your pet will never need our services, if you should, we will always be here.
